Charles Theodore Sprauer, 86, resident of Pleasant Valley for 45 years, passed away suddenly on the morning of Monday, June 26, 2023 as the result of a tragic automobile accident on the Taconic State Parkway.

“Charlie” to his family and friends, was born in the Bronx on October 1, 1936 to the late Charles Joseph Sprauer and Pauline Genevieve Sollheim.  Charlie served his country in the US Air Force from 1957-1960.

He wore many hats in his life before he retired: first a NYC Firefighter, then a US Postal Worker, and finally as a self-employed Exterminator.

Charlie had a variety of interests; he loved gardening and oil painting, but he had a passion for running, from 5K’s to Marathons, he ran them all, and he was a long-time member of the Mid-Hudson Road Runners Club.

We will sorely miss his humor, constant presence and unique outlook on life.

He is survived by his sister, Anne Sprauer of Florida and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Marilyn Clarke.

A graveside service will be held in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery., Brewster, NY on July 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Memory of Charlie may be made to the Mid-Hudson Animal Aid, 54 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY 12508.
