Summer Doin’s at the PRC

Summer Doin’s at the PRC

By Susan Stone

Many projects are seeing completion this summer at the Pawling Resource Center. A general spruce-up has been completed with the addition of some new office furnishings generously donated by John Chickery from Hudson Valley Office Furniture in Wappinger Falls. Two professional desks in the reception area, along with new desk chairs, have been delivered and installed. Many thanks to Mr. Chickery for this upgrade to the PRC’s hard-working administrative space.

Additionally, work has begun on the new entrance! For the last three years, the PRC has been using the old carriage sliding-door entrance because the main entry stairs and landing were crumbling. In the service of safety, this entrance had been demolished, leaving staff and client families unable to access the offices and food pantry through this. Many thanks to the kindness of Sean Hilderbrand and his crew from Fresh Builds Contracting, who are donating time and skills to this project. Supplies were provided through a grant from MVP Health Care, in Schenectady, New York.

Finally, the PRC has upgraded its freezer and refrigerators thanks to a generous grant from the Pawling Community Foundation and three community donors. Recently, the PRC learned that the residential-style freezer and refrigerator, which had been in use for many years, were no longer recommended by the NYS Office of General Services and the Regional Food Bank. Also, the old equipment had not been operating optimally, with foods difficult to retrieve and subjected to dreaded freezer burn. The new three-door professional units will make it possible to better serve PRC families well into the future.

Olga Brandenberger, Executive Director of the PRC, has tapped July 28th at 1:00 p.m. as a celebratory ribbon cutting in honor of the new freezer and fridge, “and maybe even our new entrance!” she happily added.
