OBITUARY, Catherine A. Senkier

Catherine A. Senkier, a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Hilton, NY on December 25, 2022 at the age of 73. She was born on January 3, 1949 in Dansville, NY.
Cathy’s enthusiastic love for her family, children, grandchildren, and friends defined her character as a human. She will be forever remembered for her honesty, determination, and resilience. After spending 17 years of her childhood in Dansville, NY with seven siblings, she graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1970. She dedicated the next 39 years of her life to teaching physical education at Pawling Central School District in New York where she coached field hockey, volleyball, cheerleading, and track and field. Her love for sports had a positive impact on thousands of children in elementary, middle, and high school athletics. As a young and aspiring teacher, she became a massive advocate for Title IX in 1972 encouraging young girls to strive for athletic success. Additionally, she officiated high school field hockey starting in 1978, which eventually led her to become a highly respected official and a model for young women participating in sports.
As a mother of two, Cathy raised her children with constant love and dedication. She helped guide her sons through life and its many obstacles with grace, humor, and of course some strict teaching practices.
One of her greatest joys in life were her two grandsons Josh and Matthew. She was an exemplary grandmother, always deriving such delight in visits, and then in pictures and stories and video calls when she couldn’t be with them in person. She filled her life with friends and family and joyfully created a loving environment for all those around her.
Predeceased by her parents, Conway E. and Mary H. Vogt; brothers, H. John Vogt, Robert E. Vogt; sister-in-laws, Deborah Vogt and Nancy Vogt. Survived by her sons, Ryan (Jennifer) and Scott (Katie); grandchildren, Josh and Matthew; brothers, Thomas M. (Vicki) Vogt, James F. (Ruth) Vogt, William J. Vogt, Paul M. (Pamela Sauer) Vogt; sister, Mary F. (Marj) Vogt; sister-in-law, Kay Vogt.
Family and friends can pay respects and honor her life at a memorial service on Saturday, January 7, 9:30 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N Greece Rd, Rochester, NY. Interment is private.
