Obituary, Karen Ann Smith

Karen Ann Smith passed away after a long illness at the Grand Nursing Home in Pawling, NY.

She was born at St Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh to Frances (Stepski) and Harold Smith on September 6, 1956.

She graduated Newburgh Free Academy in 1974 and went on to pursue her dream of being a nurse, working at Babies Hospital in Columbia Presbyterian, NY and locally at St Luke’s Hospital, continuing her career at Healthshield in New Windsor.

She enjoyed dancing having fun and loved being a Mom.  After suffering a stroke, she continued her education in religious studies and sociology.

She is survived by her son, Matthew Fletcher, her brothers Leo and Shawn, and their wives, Kim and Karen, her aunt, Ina Hamblin, her nieces and nephew, and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, brother Mark, and sister-in-law Lori, Aunt Toni and Uncle Leo.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.
