Line Dancing at Pawling Recreation

Line Dancing at Pawling Recreation

By Donald Partelow

The Pawling Library began holding free line dancing classes at Pawling Recreation on June 8th. This program originally was scheduled once per month, from June-August, with dancing instructor Tina Orgera. Line dancing is a popular activity especially with senior citizens, and is equally as entertaining as it is therapeutic. Before the first class had taken place, those who registered for the program were asking if line dancing could be a weekly program, and so additional classes were added.  We thank Pawling Recreation for partnering with our library, making not only line dancing possible but numerous other programs and events for our community. It is our goal to continue to make this program available.  The Pawling Library recently applied for a grant that will enable us to extend the number of line dancing classes to nearly the end of the year. One of the participants wrote to us about the program: “If there’s one thing I’ve learned about aging, it’s that keeping active keeps you young.  What better way to keep active than line dancing; the fun of social activity stimulates focus and muscle memory. Line dancing newbies and seasoned pros benefit from Tina’s class, as she explains and demonstrates the basic moves. I’ve seen people with two left feet advance dramatically – myself included – in just a few sessions. I hope Tina continues this program that generates confidence and helps one overcome the stigma of growing old!”
