SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES PERSONAL INJURY ACCIDENT IN CLAVERACK

Claverack, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on April 24 at approximately 10:15am, Columbia County 911 dispatched Sheriff’s Deputies to a two vehicle accident on State Route 9H, at the intersection with McIntosh Drive in the Town of Claverack.

Deputies found that a 2005 Acura MDX, operated by 35 year old Travis Mancusi of Claverack NY, was traveling southbound on State Route 9H and for unknown reasons, traveled on to the southbound shoulder of the roadway and struck a 2006 Chevrolet pick-up truck and attached flatbed trailer, which was broke down on the shoulder of the road. The Acura struck the driver’s side of the trailer, the driver’s side door of the pick-up truck and then came to rest in the southbound lane of travel. The Chevrolet pick-up was occupied by 58 year old James Casey of Troy NY, who was taken by Greenport Rescue Squad to Albany Memorial Hospital for internal injuries. Travis Mancusi complained of back pain from the accident and was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital by Greenport Rescue Squad.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Greenport Rescue Squad, Claverack Fire Company, and New York State Police all assisted at the scene.

The road was closed for approximately 1 hour during the investigation.
