Obituary, Daphne Jane Graham

Daphne Jane Graham, 75, a life-time resident of Pawling, passed away at her home in Pawling on November 22, 2021.

 

Daughter of the late David C. and Gladys (Sharp) Graham, she was born in Brooklyn N.Y. on August 17, 1946.  The family moved to Pawling in 1950, and she has lived here happily ever since.
Daphne graduated from Pawling High School in 1964 and went on to Dutchess Community College to receive her RN and completed her BSN from SUNY New Paltz. In her nursing career that spanned 45 years, she had a gift for caring for others and worked for the advocacy of the frail and vulnerable. She served her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.
Daphne worked as a psychiatric nurse at Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, Wingdale.  When she retired from there, she went to work for Grasslands Medical Center Westchester NY and then Bedford Hills Correctional facility.  After retirement she went on to work at Sharon Hospital.

 

Daphne loved the hills of Scotland, the exciting culture of Argentina, ballroom dancing, the opera, the doo wop music of the 50’s and a good cup of coffee. She had a great fondness for going into the city to spend the day “in town.”
She is survived by her two loving twin daughters, Christine Woodin of Pawling and Cathleen Montemorra and husband Chris Johnson of South Kent, CT; her two brothers, David and wife Joanne Grahan,and Daniel and wife Yvonne Graham all of Dover; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, Daphne is predeceased by three sisters, Darlene Mulkins of Lake Wales, Florida, Dea Stevenson of Poughkeepsie N.Y and Debbie Kazor of Florida.

 

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, Sunday 3-6 PM; a service will be conducted at 5:30 PM.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to help with the funeral expenses.
