Born on September 21, 1941 in Sharon, CT, she was the daughter of the late Albert K. and Katherine (Ward) Kniffen. Mrs. Whalen was a graduate of Webutuck High School class of 1959 and the Harlem Valley Nursing School. On March 3, 1962 at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains she married John P. Whalen who predeceased her on June 16, 2011.
Mrs. Whalen was a member, Sunday School Teacher and severed on The Session at the South Amenia Presbyterian Church in Wassaic, NY. She was also a trustee of the Amenia Island Cemetery.
Mrs. Whalen is survived by three sons, Kevin Whalen and his wife, Teresa, of Wassaic, NY, Brian Whalen and his wife, Susan, of Wassaic, NY and Darren Whalen and his wife, Kricket, of Hillsdale, NY. She is also survived by two brothers, Albert Kniffen of Amenia, NY, Peter Kniffen of Sharon, CT; and two sisters, Alberta Darnell of Little River, SC and Linda Hamilton of Laurinburg, NC. Mrs. Whalen is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brian Whalen and his wife, Erin, Bradley, Tyler, Kristofer, Madisen, Leah and Alyssa Whalen and two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Kyra Whalen.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at the South Amenia Presbyterian Church, 229 South Amenia Road, Wassaic, NY with Rev. Zora Ficarra Cheatham officiating.
