Obituary, George Heck

George Heck, 80, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. From 1966 to 1996, Mr. Heck was a Dutchess County 911 dispatcher. He later worked at the Union Vale Transfer Station from 2005 to 2008 and at the Town of Dover Highway Department from 2008 to 2015.

Born on August 31, 1940 in the Bronx, NY, he was the son of the late Eugene W. and Alvina (Kramer) Heck. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. On May 30, 1999 in Dover Plains, NY, he married Ella Ross who died on January 24, 2018.

Mr. Heck was a life member of the Union Vale Fire Department and served as County Car #14-2 with Dutchess County 911. He was a life member of the Chestnut Ridge Rod and Gun Club in Dover Plains and American Legion Post #1949 in Wingdale.

He is survived by two sons, John Sakowich and his wife, Kim, of Hopewell Junction, NY and Frank Bennett and his wife, Samantha, of Tulsa, OK and two daughters, Angela Wittman and her husband, Keith, of Granville, NY and Stacy Monahan and her husband, Roger, of LaGrange, NY and a sister, Caroline Heck of Dover Plains. He is also survived by ten grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 15, 2021 at the funeral home with Rev. Thom Fiet officiating.
