PRESS RELEASE

West Seneca, NY – On August 26, 2020, at approximately 7:57 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a personal injury accident on I-90 westbound, in the town of West Seneca.

The driver of a 2019 Volvo tractor trailer lost control on wet pavement while crossing the Clinton Street bridge and struck the guiderail on the right shoulder.  The tractor broke through the guiderail, causing the truck and trailer to become fully engulfed in flames while the tractor hung partially over the side of the bridge.  The driver, Igor Simakov, 54, of Duluth, GA, was able to jump from the cab of the truck, landing on the grassy area below, on Mineral Springs Road.

Simakov was transported to Erie County Medical Center for non-life- threatening injuries.  The tractor trailer from MMM Express Trucking, was carrying a small load of trijicon type components.  Erie County Department of Homeland Security Hazmat, DEC, and State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) responded to the scene to check the material and determined there was no hazard.

The scene was cleared, and all lanes re-opened just before 5:00 a.m.
