Police investigated a fatal accident involving a tractor trailer and a pedestrian on I-287 in the town of Greenburgh, Westchester County.

PRESS RELEASE

Greenburgh, NY – On August 22, 2020, at approximately 4:12 a.m., State Police were dispatched to a report of a pedestrian struck by a tractor trailer on I-287 eastbound, in the town of Greenburgh, Westchester County.

 

Investigation at the scene revealed that Joseph E. Crabtree, 55, of Homosassa, FL, was operating his 2012 Kenworth tractor trailer eastbound, in the right lane, near mile marker 2.5, when he observed a pedestrian in the roadway.  Unable to avoid contact, Crabtree struck the pedestrian who was identified as Jailene Ramirez-Barrios, 20, of White Plains, NY.  She was accompanied by Juan M. Serrano, 37, of Newark, NY.  Serrano was uninjured.  Crabtree also was not injured and showed no signs of impairment.

 

Ramirez-Barrios was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Westchester County Medical Examiner.

 

The accident was reconstructed by the New York State Police Troop K Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and remains an ongoing investigation at this time.
