Obituary, Michael Montemarano

Michael Montemarano passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 18, 2020 at Putnam Ridge Nursing Home in Brewster, NY at the age of 70 due to complications from COVID-19.

Michael leaves behind the love of his life, Loretta (Stroffolino) Montemarano, and his two sons, Nicholas Montemarano and Joseph Montemarano, his pride and joy. Additionally he is survived by his sister Ann of Sandgate, VT., brother Richard of Montgomery, NY., and mother Elsie of Cambridge, NY. He is predeceased by his father, Nicholas.

Born on February 11th, 1950 in White Plains, NY., Michael grew up in the neighborhoods of Silver Lake, NY and later Shrub Oak, NY. He graduated from Archbishop Stepinac High School and obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from The University of Dayton. Michael initially worked alongside his father at Brewster Ford and moved on to Prestige Imports and Brewster Transit Mix. Wishing to spend more time with his family, he spent his more recent years as a self-employed heavy equipment consultant and freelance mechanic. He was capable of fixing or building anything, as shown by hundreds of driveway and roadside repairs and self-built portions of his family home.

Michael dedicated his life to helping others and actively served as a Town Councilman in Pawling, NY for over 10 years. Never satisfied with good enough, he could sometimes be spotted at the town’s parks fixing benches, maintaining baseball fields, and weed whacking.

A sincere thank you to the staff of Putnam Ridge, especially our angel, Crystal Brill. He will be dearly missed by all of those whose lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pawling Resource Center in Pawling, NY. No services will be held at this time.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East main Street, Pawling, NY.
