PRESS RELEASE

Wappinger, New York – On April 12, 2015 at approximately 6:00 p.m., New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation from the Wappinger barracks arrested Yuhanna McCallum, 25 years old, of Wappinger, New York, for 2 counts of Falsifying Business Records 1st Degree, a Class E Felony, 2 counts of Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree, a Class A Misdemeanor, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree, a Misdemeanor.

Troopers from the Wappinger barracks were dispatched to investigate a fraud complaint reported by a Poughkeepsie man. The victim told police that he received a letter from the Town of Fishkill Court advising him that his driving privileges were going to be suspended if he did not pay a fine for outstanding traffic tickets that he was issued in July of 2014.

The victim reported that he was never issued the traffic tickets in question, but he did lose his old lerner’s permit in 2014. The victim further explained that someone had also presented his old permit in the Town of Wappinger during a traffic stop where tickets were issued and during an accident investigation that was conducted in the Town of East Fishkill.

Following a detailed investigation, it was discovered that McCallum had used the victim’s identification during several traffic stops because his own driver’s license was suspended.

A Trooper monitoring traffic at the intersection of Route 9 and Myers Corners Road observed a vehicle displaying a license plate believed to be associated with this criminal investigation and conducted a traffic stop. While interviewing the driver, who identified himself as McCallum, he was found possess the victim’s stolen driver’s license.

The State Police were assisted by the Town of Fishkill Police Department.

McCallum was arraigned before the Town of Wappinger Court and was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond. He is schedule to appear before the Town of Wappinger court on April 16, 2015.
