There are still spots available tonight for what is sure to be an incredible talk by Mental Health expert Dr. James Halpern. At 6 pm at the Department of Emergency Response, 392 Creek Rd in Poughkeepsie, the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will host this rare and compelling view into the challenges, tragedies, pain, frustrations, and grief at the heart of disaster mental health work.
Halpern will discuss a variety of past disasters including Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, the OKC bombing and September 11th Attacks. He will discuss how responders deal with the stress of anticipating and participating in the response, as well as best practices for working with disaster survivors and first responders.
