DEPUTIES INVESTIGATING A SERIOUS

ONE CAR ACCIDENT IN COPAKE

Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on June 22, 2019, at approximately 7:44 pm, Sheriff’s Patrols were dispatched by Columbia County 911 for a one-vehicle accident on State Route 22, just south of Weed Mine Road in the Town of Copake.

Deputy Sheriff’s found that a 2008 Saab, operated by 26-year-old Ian Caden of Lee Massachusetts, was traveling northbound on State Route 22 and for unknown reasons, crossed over into the southbound lane and then struck a guard rail on the west side of the road. The vehicle struck several feet of railing before going airborne and landing in the Roe Jan creek where the vehicle came to rest. Mr. Caden was ejected from the vehicle.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by Lifenet 71 for back, spine, and head injuries.

The accident is still being investigated by Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators.

Chatham Rescue Squad, Copake Fire Company, and Ancram Fire Company assisted at the scene.

Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office are Senior Investigator William Foster, Investigator Reagan Anderson, Sergeant Jeffrey Hofstetter, Deputy Peter Merante, and Deputy Timothy Gladwin.
