Obituary for Alfonso Pilla

Alfonso Pilla, 70, passed away on February 7, 2019 surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Alfonso was born on October 4, 1948 in Colle Sannita, Italy, son of the late Angelo Pilla and Vincenza Boscarelli. Alfonso always cherished and had fond memories of his beloved hometown Colle and his youth. In 1972, Alfonso immigrated to the United States.

Alfonso is survived by his wife of 49 years, Libera, his daughter Giorgia Stabile and son-in-law Richard. His two grandsons, Louis and Richie were the loves of his life and his “champions”, His face lite up with pride and joy each time he saw or spoke of them. Alfonso was predeceased by his daughter Vincenza, sister Pasqualina and brother Giuseppe. He is also survived by his sisters Maria, Concetta and Teresa.

Alfonso was a kind, loving and personable man. He had a heart of gold. He was funny and had a sarcastic sense of humor. He especially enjoyed sitting around the table with family and friends, share stories and have heated discussions. The stories that he shared will live on. In the fall, he searched for and picked wild mushrooms. In the winter months he would take care in making sure his homemade sausage came out just right. In the spring, Alfonso carefully watched over and nurtured his garden. In the summer months he looked forward to returning to Italy to reunite with his family, to overlook his balcony and to walk through piazza and to meet up with life-long friends from his youth. Alfonso had no greater love in life than Louis and Richie. Nonno Fo, you are our “champion.”

Alfonso was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.
