Two arrested in Poughkeepsie after leading police on pursuit initiated in Westchester

Poughkeepsie, New York – On November 18, 2018, the New York State Police with the assistance of the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department arrested Michael L. Canales, age 33, of Brooklyn, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree with intent to sell, a class B felony, Criminal Possession in the 4th degree, a class C felony, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st degree, a class E felony, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, all class A misdemeanors, and False Personation, a class B misdemeanor, and Jasmine Y. Centeno, age 27, of Hoboken, NJ, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 4thdegree, a class C felony, and Conspiracy in the 4th degree, a class E felony.

On November 18, 2018, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Troopers initiated a traffic stop on a 2004 Acura TL northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the town of Mount Pleasant for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law.  The operator of the vehicle failed to comply, and lead Troopers on a pursuit beginning in the area of mile marker 5 on the Taconic State Parkway.  With the assistance of Putnam County Sherriff’s Office, East Fishkill Police Department, and the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department the pursuit was concluded on North Hamilton Street in the city of Poughkeepsie when the Acura collided with a retaining wall and street lamp post.  The operator, Canales, resisted arrest, and was taken into custody by a city of Poughkeepsie Officer and his K9 partner.

Further investigation found Canales was in possession of approximately 134 grams of heroin, and approximately 5.6 grams of cocaine hidden on Centeno’s person.

Both Canales and Centeno were arraigned before the city of Poughkeepsie Court.  Canales was remanded to Dutchess County Jail without bail, and Centeno was remanded in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.  Both subjects are next scheduled to appear before the city of Poughkeepsie Court on January 23, 2018, at 9:00 a.m.
