Children’s Program Welcomes Local Author and Illustrator

Children’s Program Welcomes Local Author and Illustrator

By Neena McBaer

On November 3rd, the Pawling Library hosted a release party for the most recent book by local children’s author Jennifer Lohrfink Morfea (of Holmes), who came to the library to read The Beautiful Elephant. This was the first ever library reading of this thoughtful tale.

More than thirty people gathered at the library for Ms. Morfea’s reading, crafts, and snacks.  Her illustrator and co-creator, Erik Draw, demonstrated how he brought the characters in the story to life. Told in rhyme, the book tells the story of an elephant with low self-esteem who comes to realize how beautiful she truly is, both on the inside and out!  Ms. Morfea generously donated materials for the program, as well as a copy of this newest title to the library. The Beautiful Elephant will soon be on the shelves next to Morfea and Draw’s other books, The Gentle Boa and The Little Hyena.

Neena McBaer is the Children’s Programming Coordinator at the Pawling Library. Information about upcoming programs for children is available on the library website at pawlingfreelibrary.org.
