ARREST : Members of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of two men subsequent to an incident that occurred Thursday afternoon in the Towns of Esopus and Lloyd.

Ulster County Sheriff’s Office patrols attempted to stop two motorcycles that were operating recklessly on Route 9W in the Town of Esopus. Both motorcycles initially failed to stop for Deputies. One motorcycle continued to flee from Deputies, traveling north on 9W, then north on Black Creek Road, then traveling south and north on 9W several times in the Town of Lloyd. The motorcycle eventually struck a snowbank in a parking lot in the area of North Street and Route 9W in Highland. The driver, Robert Stevens, struggled and fought with Deputies and Town of Lloyd Police at the scene. Stevens was subdued and taken into custody. The other motorcyclist, Justice Kenan, was taken into custody in the same area shortly thereafter. A Town of Lloyd Police Officer was injured during the struggle with Stevens. Both men were arrested, transported to the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center and charged with the following:

Robert L. Stevens, 24, of Newburgh
1. Assault 2nd degree, a class D felony, (charged by Town of Lloyd Police)
2. Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor
3. Obstructing Governmental Administration 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor
4. Resisting Arrest, a class A misdemeanor
5. Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor
6. Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor
7. Numerous Traffic Infractions
Justice A. Kenan, 18, of Newburgh
1. Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor
2. Reckless Driving, a misdemeanor
3. Numerous Traffic Infractions

Both men were arraigned in Town of Lloyd Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail. Stevens was held in lieu of $10,000 cash bail and $25,000 property bond. Kenan was held in lieu of $750.00 cash bail and $1500.00 property bond.

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Town of Lloyd Police Department. The injured Police Officer was treated and released.
