Julie West Announced as New Executive Director of Catholic Charities

Community Services of Dutchess

POUGHKEEPSIE/October 29, 2018 – Catholic Charities Community Service of Dutchess County has announced that Julie West has been named the organization’s new Executive Director, succeeding Mary Marshall. West, who trained as both a psychiatric nurse and social worker, comes to CCCS with 20+ years of experience in the nonprofit human services field, having served at Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, as well as at several organizations in the Hudson Valley, Florida and South Carolina. She brings a strong background in program development, direct service, administrative management, board recruitment, fundraising, advocacy, budget oversight and community relations.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to helping make a difference in the lives of people in the Dutchess community,” said West, who hails from Liverpool, England, but has spent most of her married life in New York state. “As a teenager, I witnessed an elderly person pass away, alone, with an old diary from many years ago as her only possession. I knew then, as I know now, that we can do better for the people all around us. I strive to remember that and to convey it every single day to both the people I meet and the staff with whom I work. And I am eager to learn about the current community here in Dutchess County, build on CCSD’s great work with youth and immigrants, and aspire to continue to strengthen families and feed our neighbors in need.”

West noted that she has never felt so welcomed during a transition than she has at Catholic Charities and felt fortunate that the previous Executive Director, Mary Marshall, was on site for several weeks to ease her into the position and introduce her to staff as well as community leaders.

“Julie’s leadership style is one of inclusion and team building. She enables everyone to excel by encouraging them to use their talents and strengths to further the goals of the organization. We are looking forward to working with her on behalf of those in need in Dutchess County,” stated Elizabeth Wolf, Esq., Board Chair
