Rotary’s Fall Fest Full of Surprises!

Rotary’s Fall Fest Full of Surprises!

By Susan Stone

With all the fanfare surrounding the Pawling Rotary Fabulous Fall Festival, to take place this Saturday at the Lathrop Center in Lakeside Park from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, club members are rolling out one of their biggest surprises this week.  Dr. Jeremy Stone, former Broadway conductor, arranger, and jingle composer will be on hand to “Play Your Phone Number.”  Dr. Stone will be available to create individual musical ditties based on the last four numbers of community members’ phone numbers! Once constructed (a feat that takes about thirty seconds to perform and record), he’ll text or email them to you to keep forever and ever!

“This has always been fun for folks,” said Stone. “And with today’s smart phones, it’s now possible to record and send the music to the number’s owner pretty much immediately.  It occurred to me that this would be an entertaining way for Pawling Rotary to raise funds for all of its great causes, and I’m happy to help in this endeavor.”

Dr Stone was the youngest music director on Broadway when he took over the conductor’s chair for the original production of Grease back in the 1970s.  His production company also arranged the music and did musical oversight for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which was nominated for a Tony award. Additionally, he worked with Deborah Harry and Andy Kaufman, who appeared in Teaneck Tanzi. Stone, along with his partners Martin Silvestri and Joel Higgins, (star of Silver Spoons on NBC) established SS&H, responsible for creating the music for many ad spots heard on air during the 1980s,  among them Coors Light, Ban Roll-On, Kool-Aid, Schweppes, Olive Garden restaurants, Trident sugarless gum, and M&M’s chocolate candies.   Stone left the music business to pursue his PhD in clinical psychology many years ago, but his love for music and the joy it brings has remained a constant in his life.

Pawling Rotary invites the community to come over to its Fabulous Fall Festival, and let Dr. Jeremy Stone give you a jingle…based on your phone number… uniquely created just for you! He will be composing between noon and 2:00 pm, just one of the many surprises available at this community-wide event.
