Pawling Rotary Welcomes Speakers

By Susan Stone

During the last two Tuesday meetings in August and the first Tuesday meeting of September, the Pawling Rotary Club hosted outstanding speakers from three organizations.  The missions of all three organizations shared commonality by enabling and supporting success to those in need of specialized services.

The August 21st meeting welcomed Dress for Success representative Robin Blue Brown, who outlined the many ways this organization assists people who are entering or re-entering the workforce.  Dress for Success in Poughkeepsie, provides appropriate clothing choices for job interviews and work, within a boutique setting, as well as assistance with crafting a resume, and  help with the interview process.

On  August 28th, Jo Ann Brown from NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) in Dutchess County spoke passionately about the problems faced by those who cope with the stigma of mental illness. NAMI provides referrals, counseling and workshops as patients and their families learn to manage this disease.

On September 4th, Kelly Dooley and Melanie Maruzzella from The Anderson Center for Autism, located in Staatsburg, New York, shared how compassion and the passion to affect change can have a positive, life long impact on the lives of children and adults, living with this pervasive developmental disorder.

Pawling Rotary lunch meetings take place every Tuesday at noon at the Lathrop Center in Lakeside Park. For information about the many ways in which Pawling Rotary supports the Pawling community or how to become a Rotary member, log onto their website at: pawlingrotary.org.
