Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report

ARREST: Members of the Ulster Regional Gang Enforcement Narcotics Team (URGENT) report the arrest of a Fishkill man subsequent to a narcotics investigation.
Michael C. Muscat, 60, of Fishkill, was arrested subsequent to a traffic stop on Route 9W in the Town of Marlborough after being found in possession of 20 decks (dosage units) of heroin. He was charged with the misdemeanor of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Marlborough Court at a later time.

URGENT members were assisted by Town of Marlborough Police.

The following agencies have members assigned to URGENT: Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Woodstock Police, Town of Lloyd Police, Town of Shandaken Police, Ulster County Probation, Town of Plattekill Police, Village of Ellenville Police, Town of Marlborough Police, Town of New Paltz Police and the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations.

Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of Roger Defreese, 51 years old, of Chestnut Ave in Hillburn, New York, following a two car head collision that occurred on Kings Highway in the area of Clint Finger Road in the Town of Saugerties.
Mr. Defreese has been charged with the misdemeanor of aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree along with the violations of unlicensed operation and parking on pavement.

On March 27th, 2015 at approximately 9:00am, Deputies responded to Kings Highway in the Town of Saugerties for the report of a two car head on personal injury automobile accident. Investigation revealed that Mr. Defreese had been operating a 2009 Toyota Tundra when he parked his truck in the opposite lane of traffic to deliver a newspaper. A second vehicle, a 2001 Nissan Altima operated by Phyllis Mergendahl, was traveling southbound on Kings Highway when she came around a turn and found Mr. Defreese’s vehicle in her lane of traffic causing the two vehicles to collide head on. Mrs. Mergendahl received minor injuries and was transported by Diaz Ambulance for further medical treatment. Mr. Defreese did not suffer any injuries from the accident. Further investigation revealed that Mr. Defreese had been operating his motor vehicle with a suspended licensed.

Mr. Defreese was issued traffic citations for parking on pavement, aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and unlicensed operation. Mr. Defreese is scheduled to appear in the Town of Saugerties Court on April 8th, 2015 at 7:00pm.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Town of Saugerties Police Department, Mount Marion Fire Department and the Diaz Ambulance Squad.

Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of Austin Brewer, age 18, of 45 Franklin St. in the City of Kingston.
Mr. Brewer was charged with the Violation of Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.

On March 27th, 2015 at about 11:00am, Deputies working at the Department of Social Services were notified about a male possibly selling marihuana on Ulster Avenue in front of the Department of Social Services. Deputies interviewed Mr. Brewer who matched the description that was given to them. During the interview it was discovered the Mr. Brewer was in possession of Marihuana.

Mr. Brewer was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear at the Town of Ulster Court on April 8th, 2015 at 2:00p.m.

Sheriff Paul VanBlarcum announces that the Ulster Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a New York State Boater Safety Course. The course is required by law for all boaters ages 10 to 18 and all Personal Watercraft Operators.

The course is 8 hours of classroom instruction. Offered free of charge at the Ulster County Law Enforcement Center, 380 Boulevard, Kingston, NY, on the following date:
Saturday April 11th , 2015 – Class hours will be 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Dates for future courses will be announced soon.

The course instructs Boaters ages 10 to 16 and all PWC operators in Navigation Rules, NYS Navigation Laws, vessel operation and required boating safety equipment. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation: Bureau of Marine and Recreational Vehicles prescribes this course. The course in instructed by NYS certified instructors.

Anyone interested should contact the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office at (845)-340-3803. The course is limited to 30 attendees on a first come, first served basis. A parent or guardian must accompany a child age 10 to 18 at the beginning of class to sign a state required permission form.

The course is part of the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office ongoing efforts to make boating recreation safer and more enjoyable.

Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrests of Melissa Robinson (48 years old) and John Jernigan (39 years old) both of Henry Street in the City of Kingston.

Mrs. Robinson was charged with the misdemeanors of petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, conspiracy in the sixth degree and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree. Mr. Jenigan was charged with the misdemeanors of petit larceny, conspiracy in the sixth degree and criminal contempt in the second degree.

On March 25th, 2015 at approximately 2:15 p.m., Mrs. Robinson and Mr. Jenigan entered the Dollar General Store located at 130 Broadway in Port Ewen. The defendants stole merchandise from the store and fled the area. Deputies located the two subjects residing on Henry Street and recovered the stolen property. It was determined that Mrs. Robinson had an order of protection against her boyfriend, Mr. Jenigan. Mr.Jenigan violated that order during the commission of the crime. Mrs. Robinson was also found to have a suspended license and the investigation revealed that she operated her vehicle when leaving the store.

Mrs. Robinsong and Mr. Jenigan were processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Esopus Court on March 30th, 2015 at 4:30 p.m.

Deputies from the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office report the arrest of Matthew S. Hunter, 29 years old, of Kingston NY.
Mr. Hunter was charged with the Violation of Trespass.

On March 25th, 2015 at approximately 11:42 a.m., Deputies were called to the area of 271 Jockey Hill Road in the Town of Kingston for a suspicious male walking into the wooded area behind a residence. Deputies arrived on scene and located Mr. Hunter trespassing on private property.

Mr. Hunter was processed and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Kingston Court on April 7th, 2015 at 2:00PM.
