Obituary, William “Bill” Walter

Stormville – William “Bill” Walter, of Stormville, New York and former resident of Armonk, New York, passed away on June 23, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer. The son of William H. (deceased) and Catherine Walter, he was born on December 2, 1951, in the Bronx, New York, and was raised in Yorktown Heights, New York. In addition to his mother, Bill is survived by his wife Sheila (Hurton), sister Cathleen (Tom), brother Matthew (Allison), nephews Tom and Greg Combs, and Jack, Matthew, Jason, and Dylan Walter, godsons Matthew and Nicholas Poulton, and stepson James DuPell. After over 30 years in Westchester Putnam Counties Heavy & Highway Laborers Local 60 , Bill retired in April 2017. A music aficionado and lifelong car buff, he also was an animal lover and sports fan.

Bill was the kindest and best of men, an honorable man who was as beautiful on the inside as he was on the outside. His sense of humor is legendary, and his friends would often delight in sharing the latest “Bill” remark, the product of a fine and sharp intellect, even though Bill himself would deny that he owned such a thing, but those who knew and loved him know differently. Most of all, his kindness and consideration for others made him a wonderful friend on any day of the year; he was a true gentleman, and you were always happy to be in his company.

He loved the home that he shared with Sheila, he was truly happy and content with life; and we are all heartbroken that he did not have more life left to him, but we will treasure the happy memories, and the love, that he leaves behind.

Friends may call Tuesday 3-5 and 7-9 PM at2104 Saw Mill River Rd, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598 with services on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the same location. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory can be made to Safe Have Animal Shelter & Wildlife Center, P. O. Box 596, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533 (www.SafeHaven4Animals.org)

“When he shall die, cut him into little stars,

And he shall make the face of heaven so fond

That all the world will fall in love with night

And pay no worship to the garish sun.” – William Shakespeare
