East Fishkill Motor Vehicle Theft

 

On June 24th 2018 at approximately 11:30 PM , Officers were dispatched to an address on Roundhill Road in the Town of East Fishkill for the report of a Motor Vehicle Theft. Officers quickly arrived in the area and began to investigate. A short time later, Police Officer Sean Phillips discovered the stolen vehicle occupied in the area of State Route 82 and Trinka Lane. Officer Phillips attempted to conduct a traffic stop however the driver fled, failing to comply with the Police Vehicles lights and sirens. The vehicle fled northbound on State Route 82 at an extremely high rate of speed, eventually turning onto State Route 376 and then Railroad Avenue. The stolen vehicle struck one parked vehicle on Railroad Avenue and also intentionally struck the Police Vehicle Officer Phillips was operating. Officer Phillips was not injured. The operator of the stolen vehicle then drove down the rail bed ballast, over a small bridge and then discarded the vehicle, fleeing on a bicycle. The suspect was later apprehended by Officer Phillips with a big assist from Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Ryan Petrus and his K-9 Partner Piko. The suspect was identified as Christopher T. Fidelman 24, from Poughkeepsie. Mr. Fidelman was charged with Grand Larceny 3rd, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the third degree, Attempted Assault 2nd, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Mischief 3rd, and Reckless Endangerment 2nd along with multiple vehicle and traffic infractions. Mr. Fidelman was arraigned in East Fishkill Justice Court by the Honorable Judge Brian Rudner and was remanded to Dutchess County Jail with no bail pending a future court date. The Town of East Fishkill Police are encouraging any residents who may have had property stolen from their vehicle to report the theft to our department at (845) 221-2111. The Town of East Fishkill Police Department was additionally assisted in this incident by other members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, The New York State Police and members of the M.T.A. Police Department.
