Faso Presents Air Force Academy Appointment, Recognizes Congressional Silver Medal
Washington D.C. – Congressman John Faso (R-Kinderhook) today attended a ceremony at Cooperstown High School to present Heidi Edmonds with a Congressional Recognition on the occasion of her appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy. Additionally, Rep. Faso recognized Blake Guzy who is a recipient of the Congressional Silver Medal and an Army ROTC Scholarship to Georgetown University.
Heidi is Rep. Faso’s principal congressional appointment for the United States Air Force Academy and will join the military academy’s 2022 graduating class. Blake will be attending Georgetown University on a four-year ROTC scholarship.
“Heidi and Blake are both extraordinary young adults who embody what our armed forces are looking for in future leaders,” said Faso. “I’m proud of their accomplishments, and I know they both have very bright futures ahead of them.”
Heidi Edmonds was the principal appointment to the Air Force Academy for Rep. Faso during the 2018 service academy nomination process. Heidi is one of five NY-19 residents who was admitted to service academies this year, with three being appointed to West Point, and another student appointed to Annapolis. After attending the Air Force Academy, Heidi is obligated to serve in the United States Air Force for five years following graduation.
Blake Guzy was awarded an Army ROTC Scholarship, which is given to 1,000 young adults annually. More information on Army ROTC scholarships is available on the U.S. Army’s website. The Congressional Silver Medal is awarded to individuals who commit to bettering themselves and to giving back to the community. Blake was awarded the medal as a result of volunteering more than 600 hours in the community, including as a member of the local volunteer fire department and as a volunteer for the Boy Scouts. The minimum age to register for the Congressional Award Program is 13 1/2 and participants must accomplish stated goals by their 24th birthday.
