KENT NY – A Pawling man died after crashing into a sign outside a Lake Carmel deli on Monday, according to Kent NY Police.
Edward Collins 63 of Holmes was driving south on Route 52 around 7:30 a.m. when his 2004 Saturn veered into the northbound lane and off the road before hitting a sign in front of Gino’s Grab and Go Deli near Towners Road.
Collins was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s unclear why Collins crashed, police said but there is no indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.
Route 52 was closed for several hours as police investigated with the help of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department and Lake Carmel firefighters.
