Statement From Senate Candidate Karen Smythe On Senator Serino’s Vote Against New York Educators

(Red Hook, NY) – Senate Candidate Karen Smythe issued the following statement on Senator Sue Serino’s decision to vote against S.8301, legislation to end the mandatory use of standardized exams in teacher and principal evaluations. This legislation was forced to the Senate Floor by Senate Democrats and has 51 co-sponsors, including 20 Senate Republicans:

Senate Candidate Karen Smythe said, “First Sue Serino had to be publicly called out for not supporting this good bill, and after she finally signed-on the first thing she did was vote against it. That ‘say one thing and do another’ behavior is why voters are so fed up with Albany and want real change this November. Hudson Valley students, educators, and families want real action on this legislation and other efforts to reform public education and get our communities their fair share of state support. Unfortunately, it is clear that Senator Serino is taking orders from her party bosses, not listening to her constituents.”
