Obituary, Dolores Rogers Murphy

Clinton Corners – Dolores Rogers Murphy, 80 years old, of Clinton Corners NY passed away May 1st, 2018 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Dolores was the daughter of William E. and Dolores C. (Agilata) Rogers. Dolores is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thomas J Murphy, her 4 children Vincent W Murphy (Junie), Anne M Murphy (Gary Van Allen), Thomas A Murphy (Brenda), Elaine M Lowin (Stephen). Dolores was a grandmother to 5, Justin, Colin, Thomas, Hannah, and Abigail. She is also survived by her 3 siblings William (Gloria) Rogers, David (Barbara) Rogers, and Susan (Edmund) Palazynski. Dolores will be missed by many but especially her nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.

Dolores moved from Lackawanna, NY to the Hudson Valley in 1957 with her husband, Tom. She and Tom lived for many years in Rhinebeck and later moved to Clinton Corners. Dolores studied Art at SUNY New Paltz and she used her artistic talents to teach children at RCS and Astor Home for Children the joy of art. Later she worked at Blue River Handprints and Vera as a designer and colorist. However, Dolores hit her stride when she struck out on her own started a small business D.R. Murphy Antiques. Dolores’ passion for beauty was evident in her home and garden. She collected fine antiques specializing in federal colonial furniture “the big brown stuff”. She poured her energy into collecting, restoring and sharing her love of furniture. Dolores’ expertise was called upon to appraise many historic sites and estates in the Hudson Valley.

Her passion for nature was reflected in her beautiful gardens.

Dolores’ warmth and quick wit will be missed by all who knew her. While dementia can steal a person of so much, Dolores’ ability to love and be loved was present to the very end.

A private memorial service is being planned for family and invited guests, May 14th, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mariner’s Harbor, 1 Broadway, Kingston.
