Obituary, James Joseph Griffin, Jr.

 

James Joseph Griffin, Jr. passed away Friday, April 27, 2018, at Putnam Hospital Center, Carmel, NY at the age of 67.

A resident of Pawling, NY and formerly of Kent, CT. Jim was born on February 11, 1951, in NYC to James and Helen Griffin, Sr.

Jim was a graduate of White Plains High School, St. Thomas Moore and attended Fairfield University and Mercy College where he earned a certificate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Jim had a 37-year career working in many capacities at Metro-North Railroad. At the time of his retirement, he was the Director of Safety. He was a musician, singer and songwriter. He was a devoted communicant of St. John’s Church in Pawling, where he was a member of the choir, past trustee, lector, and volunteer.

Jim is survived by his wife, Elaine of 46 years; his daughter Lauren Hamilton and son-in-law Colin of Wayland, MA; his son James Griffin III and daughter-in-law Nicole of Cranford, NJ. Jim was the proud grandfather of Griffin and Anna Hamilton and Sienna and Lila Griffin. They fondly called him Railroad Man. He is also survived by his sister Meg Griffin of South Hamilton, MA and nephew Knoah Piasek.

Family and friends may pay their respects at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY on Wednesday, May 2nd 4-7 PM.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 AM at St. John’s Church, 39 East Main Street, Pawling.  Burial will follow at Kent School Cemetery, Kent, CT.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to St. John’s Church; Pawling, NY.
