Columbia Sheriff’s Office nabs drug dealers

Hudson, New York: Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports several drug arrests during the week of March 20th, 2018.

On March 20, 2018, members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Hudson Police Department, and N.Y.S. Parole executed a search warrant signed by Judge Richard Koweek at the Hudson Terrace Apartments in the City of Hudson. During the execution of this warrant investigators from these agencies seized approximately 160 grams of cocaine, approximately $12,000 in cash, a vehicle and two handguns. One of the handguns was reported stolen from another residence in Columbia County and the other was defaced. This investigation is continuing and charges are forthcoming.

On March 21, 2018, Ashawn Abbott, 42 of Chatham, NY was taken into Custody by Columbia County Sheriff’s Deputies and N.Y.S. Parole. Abbott was found to have in his possession approximately 17.5 grams of Marihuana. Abbott has been charged with Criminal Possession of Marihuana 2nd degree (Class D Felony). Abbott was arraigned in the Village of Chatham Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail on $30,000 cash / $50,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to Chatham Village Court on March 26th at 10:00 am

On Friday, March 23, 2018, members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Columbia Greene Shared Services Response Team executed search warrants signed by Judge Richard Koweek, one at 29 Prospect St. in the Village of Philmont and one at the Yorkshire Motel in Claverack. These warrants yielded a large amount of heroin, drug paraphernalia, and cash. Arrested during these warrants were
Timothy Simpson, 43 of Philmont, NY who was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd and Evan Kravitz, 36 of Claverack NY, who was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd both Class B Felonies. Simpson and Kravitz were both arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court. Kravitz was remanded to the Columbia County Jail without Bail and scheduled to return to Claverack Town Court on March 29th, 2018 at 10:00 am, Simpson was arraigned and remanded to the Columbia County Jail on $100,000 cash / $200,000 bond he is scheduled to return to Claverack Town Court on March 29th 2018 at 9:30 am.

These arrests are the result of a more than six-month long investigation conducted by members of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Hudson Police Department, N.Y.S. Parole and the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office

Sheriff Bartlett stated; “This investigation was a huge success largely due to the cooperation of all the agencies involved. As always we continue to aggressively target anyone spreading this poison throughout our community.
