Six Mid-Hudson’s “Komic Kreators” Will Be On Hand to Greet Guests

At Arts Mid-Hudson’s Show Preview Fundraiser Feb. 13

POUGHKEEPSIE – Six of the region’s comic book inkers, artists and creators will be on hand to greet the attendees at Arts Mid-Hudson’s “Komic Kreators of the Mid-Hudson Valley” show preview from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 13 in the organization’s gallery at 696 Dutchess Turnpike, Poughkeepsie.

The six comic artists who will be on hand to autograph work at the preview are: Joe Staton, current Dick Tracy artist; Ramona Fradon, best known for her work on Brenda Starr; Charles Barnett III, an inker who has worked on Thor, The Avengers and other comics; Eliot R Brown, penciler for the Avengers and Captain America among other Marvel titles; Fred Hembeck, cartoonist best known for his parodies of characters from major American comic book publishers; and, Liza Donnelly, New Yorker cartoonist and author. They will be joined by Mark Sinnott who will be representing his father Joe Sinnott, long-time inker of The Amazing Spider-Man Sunday comic strip.

Their work along with that of Terry Austin, inker of “X-Men: Days of Future Past” upon which the 2014 movie is based, and Herb Trimpe, inker for Hulk and Wolverine, will be featured in the show which runs through March 7.

The show preview party is a fundraiser for Arts Mid-Hudson. Tickets are $15 or 2 tickets for $25. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.

Artists will also be on hand at “Komic Kreators” grand opening between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb.14. Gallery admission will be free.

The show’s hours will be from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Gallery admission is free through the remainder of the show.

Special events to be held during “Komic Kreators” include a presentation on the genesis of a comic image and strip by Barnett from 1 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 21; and a panel discussion, “Women in Komics,” with Liza Donnelly and Ramona Fradon from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 28 which will cover the changing role of women featured in comics and comic book based movies as well as the women who create the comics. Tickets for each event are $10.
