New Jersey man arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter

The New York State Police in Wurtsboro announce the arrest of Alekos Patients, age 34 and from Dumont, NJ at the time of the incident, for Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree.  On September 7, 2016, Patentas was operating a 2015 BMW M6 on State Route 17 in the Town of Mamakating.  The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck the rear end of a tractor-trailer resulting in the death of Carrie Ganley.  Ganley, age 36 of Bayville, NJ, was the passenger inside Patentas’ vehicle at the time of the accident.  After an extensive investigation, it was determined that Patentas was impaired by drugs while operating the vehicle.

Alekos Patentas was arraigned in the town of Mamakating Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $25,000 bond.

The State Police in Wurtsboro were assisted by the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office during the course of this investigation.
