Karen Smythe Earns Dutchess County Democratic Committee Endorsement

RED HOOK – Last night, the Dutchess County Democratic Committee voted to endorse Karen Smythe’s campaign for State Senate in the 41st Senate District. Karen, a business and community leader born and raised in the Hudson Valley, officially announced her campaign for State Senate on Monday, February 26.

“I am honored to be endorsed by the Dutchess County Democratic Committee and I thank them for supporting my efforts to grow the economy, help schools get more state aid, expand access to quality health care, and protect our natural resources,” Karen Smythe said. “My campaign is focused on serving Hudson Valley residents and ensuring they receive the representation they deserve in the State Senate. I look forward to discussing my campaign message and diverse experience as a business and community leader with all of the voters of the 41st Senate District.”

Karen Smythe was born and raised in Poughkeepsie. A former marketing executive, she became the fourth-generation to run her family’s construction business, C.B. Strain & Son, a proud union employer. Under Karen’s leadership, C.B. Strain supported hundreds of good paying jobs locally. Karen is the current Executive Director of the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association in Hyde Park, and well understands the need for more middle-class jobs that pay a living wage.

Karen Smythe holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business, and a BA from Vassar College. A lifelong Democrat and fourth-generation resident of Dutchess County, Smythe currently lives in Red Hook with her husband Nevill, and has two adult children. Karen Smythe will hold her campaign kick-off event at Paula’s Public House at 5:30 PM on Wednesday March 7th.
