Sharon Connecticut man arrested for grand larceny

Washington, New York – On February 21, 2018, the New York State Police from the Poughkeepsie barracks arrested Clifford D. Akins, age 59, of Sharon, CT, for Grand Larceny in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5thdegree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, both class A misdemeanors, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 2nd degree, an unclassified misdemeanor.

On December 21, 2017, Troopers responded to the Gulf gas station on Route 44 in the town of Washington for a report of a Larceny.  An investigation determined an unidentified male stole $3,000 from the counter left unattended by the store clerk.  Akins was developed as a suspect but was located outside of New York.  On February 21, 2018, Akins returned to the Gulf gas station and was subsequently arrested.  Further investigation found Akins was in possession of stolen property, a small amount of cocaine, and operated his vehicle with four suspensions.

Akins was arraigned before the town of Union Vale Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.  Akins is next scheduled to appear before the town of Washington Court on February 27, 2018, at 5:00 p.m.
