Senior Friendship Center to Relocate to Red Hook
Poughkeepsie … Dutchess County Executive Marcus J. Molinaro announced the Office for the Aging (OFA) will relocate its Senior Friendship Center serving northwestern Dutchess County from its current location at Memorial Lutheran Church, 1232 Route 308 in Rhinebeck, to a new location in the Red Hook Community Center, 59 Fisk Street in the Village of Red Hook, on Monday, February 26th.
The OFA operates eight Senior Friendship Centers throughout Dutchess County, which are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and offer nutritious congregate meals and social activities. The new Red Hook location, which will be open Monday through Thursday, is 36 percent larger than the current site in Rhinebeck. Positioned closer to population centers in northern Dutchess County, the Red Hook site will provide more space for socialization and exercise, and it will offer the opportunity for intergenerational activities with seniors and teens, as well as activities with local organizations. OFA staff estimates attendance at the new Red Hook location will double in the coming year, compared to the number of seniors who have attended the Senior Friendship Center location in Rhinebeck.
County Executive Molinaro said, “Providing high-quality services and programs for our seniors is the top priority for the Dutchess County Office for the Aging. Our new Senior Friendship Center location in Red Hook will provide even more space and opportunities for seniors throughout northern Dutchess County, helping them remain active and sustain a high quality of life while contributing to our community. We look forward to many local seniors utilizing this new Senior Friendship Center location, as our Office for the Aging continues to serve the needs of our seniors.”
The new Senior Friendship Center location will also serve as the base of operations for the OFA’s Home Delivered Meals program serving Milan, Red Hook, Rhinebeck and part of Clinton; home delivered meals are available to eligible seniors five days a week. Additionally, the new location will provide seniors opportunities for unique activities, such as tai chi and line-dancing classes.
OFA Director Todd Tancredi said, “By relocating to the Red Hook Community Center, our northern Dutchess Senior Friendship Center not only benefit seniors who come to the center to socialize with friends, it will also provide more efficient service to seniors who enjoy home delivered meals. We urge seniors in northern Dutchess County to come to our new Friendship Center location and explore the many options it offers.”

In 2017, OFA staff served more than 13,000 individual seniors and non-seniors, as well as caregivers and family members with a wide variety of community-based services, including case management, case assistance, home care, senior centers, home-delivered meals, legal services, insurance counseling, energy assistance, transportation, caregiver services, health promotion, information and referral and educational programming.
County Legislator Kristofer Munn said, “This new Senior Friendship Center location will provide more programming space and a wider array of activities for even more local seniors. I thank the Office for the Aging and County Executive Molinaro for their efforts to enhance the quality of life for our seniors.”
A formal grand opening celebration will be take place on March 19th.
