Chatham man arrested for falsely reporting incident to police

Chatham, New York – On February 5, 2018, the New York State Police from the New Lebanon barracks and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Livingston arrested Joshua K. Vandewal, age 39, of Chatham, for Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd degree, and Filing a False Written Statement, both class A misdemeanors.

On November 11, 2017, Vandewal reported a burglary of his residence on Drowne Rd in the town of Chatham in which fifty firearms were reported stolen.  An investigation conducted by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation determined the reported burglary was a fabrication and Vandewal was subsequently arrested on February 5, 2018.

Vandewal was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Chatham Court on February 28, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.
