Samuel Lester Thorne, 64, passed away at The Grand at Pawling nursing home on Thursday, February 1, 2018.
Samuel was born on June 19, 1953, n Norwalk, CT to the late Samuel Thorne and Ann (Nicholson) Thorne Adams. He grew up near Putnam and Dutchess counties, and lived in Wassaic for many years. Samuel had been a truck driver for 46 years, working for Earth Alterations in Poughquag. Samuel, called “Sam” by his family loved driving trucks.
Sam is survived by his wife, Virginia (Simmons) Thorne, who have been together for 23 years, but married on June 7, 2008. Samuel is also survived by his children, Samuel Thorne III (and his partner Terry Simmons) of Millerton, Jonathon Thorne (and his partner Laurie) of Poughkeepsie, Kristi Ball (and her partner Shaun Watson), William Ball III, Joshua Thorne (and his partner Tatyana Watson), and Sharyn Thorne (and her partner Casey McKay) all of Wassaic; three brothers, Robert, Billy, and Joseph Thorne and a sister, Terry hop-Adams; 8 loving granddaughters and 7 loving grandsons, Sam’s pride & joys; one aunt, Betty Jones; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Samuel is predeceased by four brothers, John & Charles Thorne and Richard & Arthur Adams.
Sam was a great man and family was everything to him. He loved hunting and fishing in his free time, and he also loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles.
A service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 12:00 PM at the Valley Bible Fellowship Church, 1875 Clove Road, LaGrangeville, NY 12540.
