Two people arrested in Catskill for drug possession

On January 14th, 2018, at approximately 4:50 AM, Troopers stopped a vehicle on County Route 23B in the Town of Catskill for a violation of the vehicle and traffic law.  While speaking with the driver, Troopers could see drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle.  Brett Lauren-Kennedy and Justine Byrd were found to be in possession of a large quantity of heroin with an approximate street value of over $2,000.00. Lauren-Kennedy and Byrd were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd degree (a B Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree (a C Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th degree (an A Misdemeanor), and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia (an A Misdemeanor). Lauren-Kennedy was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree (an A Misdemeanor).

Both subjects were arraigned in the Town of Catskill Court.  Justine Byrd was remanded to Greene County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail while Brett Lauren-Kennedy was remanded in lieu of $50,000 case bail.
