Calendar note: Friday, January 12 is an early dismissal day for all students (Staff development day). CHS students dismissed at 10:15am; GFMS at 11am and Elementary schools at 11:50am.
 
Since schools are closed today, the CHS Snow Glow Dance has been canceled for this evening.
SUBSTITUTES NEEDED!  CCSD needs substitutes in the following areas. If interested, contact Joanne Stevens at jstevens@carmelschools.org or 845 878-2094, ext. 210:
  • Cleaners
  • Licensed Nurses
  • Level-1 Certified Teaching Assistants (Instructions for obtaining certification are available)
  • Monitor/Special Education Student Aides
  • Contact Juanita Kettlewell (ext. 211):  Teachers (must have at least a BA, BS or in a teaching program and completed your student teaching. NYS Certified teachers preferred. NYSED Fingerprint Clearance for employment required.

Carmel Continuing Ed program is looking for foreign language (Spanish and Italian) teachers for the Spring session. If interested, please email Rosey Mitchell at carmelconted@carmelschools.org  In addition, contact Rosey immediately if you have a class that you would like to offer for the Spring session.

 

CHS Dance Team presents their 16th Annual “Evening of Dance,” Saturday, Jan. 6 at GFMS. Doors open at 5pm, show begins at 6pm. Tickets sold at the door and are $10/adults; $5/students. Raffle tickets and snacks available for purchase. Come see great performances by our team, senior solos and some special guests! Calling Future Carmel Rams Hockey Players! On Saturday, January 6, come cheer for the varsity hockey team on “Future Rams Night” at Brewster Ice Arena. See the excitement as the team faces Lakeland/HenHud and let the Rams welcome all aspiring varsity hockey players! Bring your skates, helmets and gloves. Puck drop is at 6:30pm. Come early!

 

Carmel Rams Booster Club presents Carmel Rams Youth Wrestling Clinic for students in grades K-6! Registrations accepted through Jan. 9, 2018. Mondays and Wednesdays and/or Thursdays from 6-7:30p.m. at George Fischer Middle School. $185/pp includes Carmel Wrestling shorts & t-shirt, USA wrestling card (valid for 1 Yr) and end of season celebration party. For practice dates and further information contact Mike at michaelplotkin@me.com

GFMS Ice Ball for 7th & 8th grade students is Friday, Jan. 19 from 7-9:30pm at GFMS. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door. Finger foods, water and punch included in admission cost. Semi-formal dress (no jeans or sneakers). For questions regarding food allergies contact Mr. Mazzotta at dmazzott@carmelschools.org  NOTE: Students who have not handed in their signed handbook/early dismissal sheets may not attend school function.
 
The George Fischer Players present “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7pm, Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2pm and Sunday, Jan. 28 at 2pm in the GFMS Auditorium. Tickets sold at the door: $5/students & children; $10/adults.
 
GFMS Yearbook Booster/Recognition Ads will be online ONLY this year! The school has partnered with Jostens to provide assistance in creating your personalized ad for your student. GFMS Yearbooks are for sale, $46+tax (does not include cost of personalization or extras). Sorry, yearbooks are not free for 8th graders. To place an order on line: www.jostensyearbooks.com Order early as there will be limited/no copies for sale in June.
 
Applications and Information for the 2017-2018 GFMS Science Fair are now available. Visit the GFMS home page and look for the Science Corner section. This year’s fair is on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Send in your household Box Tops labels in a baggie with your child’s and teacher’s names on the outside. There are containers in each classroom. In February, the KPSPTO will give a hot cocoa-and-cookies party to the class that collects the most Box Tops labels.

School Store is now open every Friday (while school is in session) from 12-2pm for grades 1-4. $5 maximum.

PUTNAM COUNTY YOUTH FORUM
High School Teens–serve on the Youth Forum Planning committee! Identify workshops, find facilitators, assist in designing flyers and posters and help run the event (event takes place on Tuesday, April 17). The first meeting of the planning committee is Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 6:30-8pm at 1 Geneva Rd., Brewster. The committee will meet each Tuesday until early April 2019. 4-H JUNIOR MASTER GARDENER SERIES
Open to Putnam County youth in grades 3-5. Two-year program, offered in 8 sessions. Participating youth may choose to attend some or all of the sessions. Limited to 12 participants per session.
