William A. ‘Billy’ Brown, a lifelong resident of Brewster, died on January 1, 2018 in Danbury, CT. He was 73 years old.
Billy was born on August 8, 1944 in Bridgeport, CT, son of Harold and Dorothy Brown. He attended Brewster schools and proudly served as sergeant/honor guard in the army from 1967 until 1969.
On November 10, 1969, Billy married the love of his life, Lorraine in Elkton, Maryland.
Early in life, Billy managed his family’s business, H.S. Brown Well Drilling. He then worked as a heavy equipment excavating operator for Bottge Construction in Brewster. Billy continued to share his vast excavating talents working with Clearwater Excavating Corp. of North Salem, NY, as well as, Earth Alterations in Pawling, NY and finally, James Gagliardo Excavating in Pawling, NY.
He was a lifelong member and longtime trustee of the First United Methodist Church of Brewster.
Always the loving family man, Billy spent countless hours with his grandchildren whether playing board games or sports. Annual trips included Hershey Park and family gatherings in Arizona. He was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed fishing, water skiing, cruises and visits to many Antique car shows. Yes, he had a few of them too. Billy took great pride in working with his hands, whether building or fixing. A great fan of John Wayne, memorabilia could be found throughout his home. Oh, and you knew for certain there was a smile on its way when he was sure to address you by your own unique nickname, selected just for you. Billy was truly a friend to all.
Besides his loving wife Lorraine of 48 years, Billy is survived by his son Marc Brown of Brewster, Loren L. Daly (Bill) of Danbury, CT and Erin L. Yarochowicz (Chuck) of Broad Brook, CT; his brother, Charles L. Brown (MaryAnn) of Glendale, AZ and Goddaughter, Jessica L. White of Somers, NY; seven grandchildren, Megan, Jeffrey, Harold, Hailey, Robert, Thea and Helene. Also several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2018 1:00pm at the First United Methodist Church of Brewster, 83 Main Street, Brewster, NY. Interment will follow at Milltown Rural Cemetery, Brewster. Friends may call at 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster on Saturday from 4 to 8pm.
Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Brewster, 83 Main Street, Brewster, NY where a fund in Bill’s memory with special purpose will be created.
