Douglas Orville Odell, Sr. , 79, a longtime resident of Poughquag, NY, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Poughkeepsie.
Born on January 18, 1938, in Stormville, NY, he was the son of Orville and Muriel (Woodin) Odell. On June 15, 1955, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Ruth Nelson of Pleasant Valley.
Doug worked for a while for Pawling Rubber Corporation, then in 1965, he and his wife started Doug Odell Septic Cleaning, which they ran together until they retired in 1995.
Doug joined the Beekman Fire Department in 1956 and was currently a life member of the fire department and the Beekman Rescue Squad.
He is survived by his four children, Douglas O. Odell, Jr of Poughquag, Timothy C. Odell of Rhinebeck, Donna Goss (William) of Poughquag, and Darlene Griffin, also of Poughquag; seven grandchildren, Jeff Nappi, Jaime Lynn and Zachary Odell, Sean and Brian Goss, and Sam Jr and Steven Griffin; eight great-grandchildren; and several nephews.
He is predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, who passed away in 2006, his brother, Clinton Odell of Florida, and granddaughter, Stacy Lynn Goss of Poughquag.
Family and friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY on Friday, January 5, 2018, from 6-9 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Beekman Cemetery, Poughquag, NY.
