COLUMBIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING ONE VEHICLE INTO A TREE

Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that on October 2, 2017 at approximately 5:08am, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched by Columbia County 911 to a one vehicle accident on State Route 9G, just north of County Route 14 in the Town of Greenport.

Deputies found that a 2005 Ford Five Hundred, operated by 25 year old Andre Irving of Poughkeepsie, was traveling northbound on State Route 9G and for unknown reasons crossed the centerline and exited the west side of the roadway . The vehicle struck a guard rail, went down an embankment, and struck a tree with the passenger side of the vehicle finally coming to rest. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

The driver was entrapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by Greenport and Germantown fire and rescue personnel. Mr. Irving was transported to Albany Medical Center by Greenport Rescue Squad for serious head injuries.
At this time, the investigation is continuing. State Rou
te 9G was closed for approximately 2 hours during the investigation.

Greenport Rescue Squad, Greenport Fire Department, and Germantown Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office at the scene are First Sergeant John Rivero, Investigator Reagan Anderson, and Deputy Ted Blank.
