Common Ground Farm Harvest Gala 10/19

Common Ground Farm Harvest Gala 10/19

Common Ground Farm is proud to celebrate our 16th year of community farming in Wappingers Falls just 5 miles outside of downtown Beacon, NY. Since 2013, Common Ground has been a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to food access, food justice, and educating people of all ages and economic standing about healthy food and agriculture that is ecologically sound. Common Ground’s programming aims to reach every layer of the food system in Beacon and beyond. The farm’s food supplies Hudson Valley restaurants, food pantries, soup kitchens, churches, community events, farmers’ markets, the local school district, and the public at large, who can come to the farm for our U-Pick share program. Over 50% of the total harvest each year is donated or sold at reduced price, ensuring accessibility and access to the entire community.

Common Ground’s educational programs are an essential aspect of ensuring a healthy future for all. Programs include an extensive farm-to-school initiative in partnership with Beacon City School District, collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension Green Teens’ program, an on-site Pre-School program, and 7 week summer camp rooted in farm-based learning. New in 2016, Common Ground was granted management of the Beacon Farmers’ Market, and has since began managing two new markets in Newburgh as well. Common Ground believes in making farmers’
markets more accessible to all the communities in our region and all community members. Common Ground, along with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Dutchess County has initiated a nutrition incentive program at the Beacon Farmers’ Market and Common Greens Mobile Market, and accepts SNAP / EBT and FMNP / WIC benefits.

Common Ground is a small organization with a large amount of programming that require support from external sources in order to be sustainable. This year, Common Ground and The Roundhouse are proud to present the first annual Harvest Gala, featuring gourmet dishes prepared with local ingredients by highly acclaimed chef and Common Ground board member Terrance Brennan. The Harvest Gala will feature local food prepared with produce and protein from local Hudson Valley farms, cocktails by Drink More Good, live music, dancing, an auction, and a presentation highlighting Common Ground Farm’s mission and programs.

Proceeds from the Harvest Gala directly fund Common Ground’s food justice, access, and educational programming.
