Cortlandt, New York – On July 17, 2017 at approximately 12:15 p.m., New York State Police from the Cortlandt barracks were dispatched to a 2-car personal injury auto collision that occurred on State Route 9 at Roa Hook Road.An investigation indicates that Steven M. Huffman, of Kerhonkson, New York, was traveling northbound on State Route 9 by Roa Hook Road.  A Ford van, operated by 31-year-old Miguel Belony Jr., age 31 of Oyster Bay, New York, initiated a left turn from Roa Hook Road onto State Route 9, failing to yield the right of way to Huffman.  Huffman, who was operating a Kenworth Tractor Trailer, struck the van which subsequently overturned.  The tractor trailer exited the roadway off the westbound shoulder and came to rest.

Belony was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with life threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.  Belony’s passenger, Alberto L. Roman, 37 years old, of Farmingdale, New York, was transported to Westchester Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The roadway was closed for several hours while the New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit reconstructed the crash. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded to the scene.

Also at the scene of the crash were members of the Garrison Fire Department.
