Women’s Support Services Hosts Free Training on

Brain Trauma and Domestic Violence  

 

[Sharon, CT.] – (July 2017) – Women’s Support Services will host a training workshop on the intersection of brain injury and domestic violence at the Sharon Hospital cafeteria, Wednesday, August 16 from 2.00 – 4.00 pm, 50 Hospital Hill Road, Sharon, CT 06069.

 

92% of domestic violence survivors had been hit on the head by their abusers and three quarters of domestic violence survivors have been found to have symptoms consistent with traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Bonnie Meyer, MS CRC CBIST of the Brain Injury Alliance will run the training, focusing on:

  • Reasons for discussing this problem and its prevalence in domestic violence cases
  • Understanding brain function and causes of injury
  • Recognizing TBI in daily life and strategies for daily activities
  • Consequences of injury and case studies
