Christopher Palmiero of RPI Baseball Earns Weekly Award
TROY, NY (04/26/2017)– Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Christopher Palmiero of Patterson 12563 has been selected to the Liberty League for an outstanding effort in baseball.
A freshman named Rookie of the Week, Palmiero went 1-0 with a 0.00 earned run average in his only start last week. Hurling a 7.0-inning complete game shutout, he surrendered three hits, while striking out six and walking two. He held Vassar batters to a .130 average. Through eight games (5 starts) this year, Palmiero is 3-1 with a team-best 1.69 earned run average. The Carmel High School graduate has allowed just 30 hits in 37.1 innings, striking out a team-leading 42 batters, while walking 10. He allows a .219 opponent batting average. Palmiero is 3-0 with a 1.25 ERA in three Liberty League starts, including a complete game and a shutout. Surrendering only 14 hits in 21.2 innings, he struck out 20 batters and walked seven with a .184 opponent average.
Rensselaer (15-16; 8-6 Liberty League) travels to Rochester for four-games this weekend, beginning on Saturday (1pm).
