Obituary, Fred Cersosimo

Fred Cersosimo, 89, devoted family man, friend, and community member, passed away after a brief illness on February 17th, 2017. He is reunited with Roberta, his beloved wife of sixty-three years, who predeceased him in April of 2016.

Fred was born in the Bronx on October 18, 1927.  Fred and Roberta moved to Pawling, NY from the Bronx in 1959–and though you could take the man out of the Bronx, you couldn’t take the Bronx out of the man. Fred passes his street smarts on to his family, who learned from him the value of common sense, hard work, and commitment to each other. Known as the neighborhood fix-it man, when Fred wasn’t at work with his Con-Ed crew, where he served in the gas division for forty-four years, he could be found in his garage: repairing kids’ bicycles, wrenching on a car, or giving one of his signature (mandated) crew cuts. The many who knew and loved Fred, or “Mr. C” to his children’s friends, were blessed by his infectious laugh–and his good-natured ribbing!

Fred was a longtime volunteer fireman in Pawling, an avid Yankee fan, and a frequent traveler. Fred and Roberta enjoyed their long retirement, making regular trips to visit family and friends in Maine, North Carolina, Hilton Head Island, and Florida. They also enjoyed their day-trips to Mohegan Sun for yet another toss of dice.  Fred also proudly served in the US Navy.

Fred is survived by his brother Richard of North Carolina, his three sons, Frank, of New Paltz, Robert and Michael, both of California; two daughters, Lynn Capozzoli and husband Michael of Poughkeepsie, and Cathy Conover and husband Fred of LaGrangeville; four grandchildren, Sara & Joseph Capozzoli and Jesse & Christopher Cersosimo; great- granddaughter Cassidy Ann McGuire. He was predeceased by his parents Rocco and Teresa (Negri) Cersosimo and his brother Louis.

Special thanks to Karen, Karen, and Gail, who gave Fred and Roberta loving care in their final years.
