Greenburgh, New York – On February 4, 2017 at approximately 10:08 p.m., the New York State Police responded to the southbound side of the Tappan Zee Bridge span after a passer-by observed a vehicle stopped on the bridge and a man standing near the railing.

A Subsequent investigation revealed that 53-year-old Kenan Ozdemir, of Valley Cottage, New York, had jumped off of the bridge into the Hudson River prior to police arriving on scene.

The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office and the Westchester County Police Department dispatched marine units to search the river for the victim.  Approximately one hour later, the victim’s body was recovered by the Westchester County Police Department.  Ozdemir was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by the Westchester Medical Examiner’s Office.
