Obituary, Margaret Louise (Beatty) Cummings

Margaret Louise (Beatty) Cummings, 95, wife of the late Raymond Cummings died at her home in New Milford, CT on January 13, 2017.

Margaret was born in New Milford on October 24, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Marshall and Laurena (Murphy) Beatty and was raised in Sherman, CT on what was once known as the Beatty Farm. Margaret’s memories of farm life were often shared through the generations; those years were some of her happiest. There were multiple generations living on the farm with plenty of children, including her six siblings and pets to play with such as her favorite, Belters the cow.

Margaret is survived by two daughters, Debra Waldorf and her husband James and Wendy Wassong and her husband Robert, both of New Milford; sister Lucille Shanks and brother Edward Beatty, both currently residing in Florida. In addition she is survived by grandchildren Guy White, Desiree Sikora, Jaimie Harel, Dawn Iffland, Heidie Carrozzo, Renee Hungerford, Katina Hungerford, Sondae Waldorf, Angela Cornell, Aimee Wassong, Joshua Wassong and his wife Meg, Dana Bennett and Brooke Spaino. In all, Margaret left a legacy of 65 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren. In addition, there are many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends that have been a constant source of love, pride and storytelling throughout the years. Sadly, Margaret was predeceased by not only her very loving husband of 55 years, Raymond, but also by two children, Harold Bennett and Linda Bennett; along with grandson Jimmy Bennett; three sisters, Ethel, Virginia and Caroline; and one brother, Marshall. Margaret made sure no one was ever forgotten and every chance she had she told stories about each person she knew that had passed on in order to keep them within our memories.

A service celebrating Margaret’s life will take place in the church she was baptized in, Sherman Congregational Church in Sherman, CT, on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at noon. We will be sharing plenty of stories, photos and love. Burial will be held in the spring at Morningside Cemetery in Gaylordsville, CT. Donations in her memory may be made to the Sherman Congregational Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements at, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford, CT.
